Puebla’s Great Food Tour

Puebla’s Great Food Tour

This unique experience has been carefully designed to take you on an exciting gastronomic journey to sample Puebla’s culinary heritage and discover the historical events that shaped the edible treasures of a world-acclaimed cuisine.

Framed by iconic volcanoes, the city of Puebla is about 100km from Mexico City. The local food scene is a vibrant mix of flavors, colors, and textures of indigenous, Spanish and Middle Eastern origin. Twice listed in UNESCO’s tangible and intangible heritage for its Colonial architecture and the immense value of its gastronomy, Puebla is a city to be enjoyed with your eyes and taste buds.

I’m Rocio Carvajal, food researcher, cook, baker, blogger, speaker and I’m delighted to be your culinary ambassador in Puebla. Let’s make some delicious memories together!

Where does the tour take place?

The tour takes place in the historical centre of Puebla, offering a stunning blend of beautiful historical buildings and great local eateries. Each building, church and corner of the city is full of fascinating stories waiting to be uncovered, not to mention the fantastic culinary flavors, as we walk through Puebla’s busy streets.

Food safety

Mexican food is remarkably diverse in both the breadth and depth of its flavors and while it is absolutely delicious, it is worth remembering that every tummy reacts differently when eating new foods, flavors and ingredients, and especially for the first time. Each eatery in this tour has been selected for its authenticity and quality – their reputation speaks for itself – however, I can’t guarantee how your tummy may react to the wide range of ingredients that are included in these dishes.

If needed, I can provide suggestions for non-prescription remedies to aid your comfort.

Premium tours

This exclusive service offers a personalized experience for solo travelers, couples, families, and other groups. As well as the standard tour, you’ll also be able to enjoy a more relaxed experience, a visit to the old town, the home of Puebla’s oldest Spanish settlement, and a visit to an artisan bakery which makes traditional Mexican breads and pastries. These extras will extend the length of your tour too.

There’s an extra $10 USD charge per person and bookings are subjects to availability. I highly recommend booking as far in advance as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

Will I be hungry afterwards?

Not unless you’re Augustus Gloop. The overall amount of food samples and drinks makes up for a very generous lunch, despite all the walking.

Are there vegetarian options? What about food allergies and other dietary preferences?

Vegetarians can easily be catered for but please be sure to notify me in advance so there are no surprises on the day. For food allergies and other dietary preferences please contact me before booking to discuss your needs.

Yes. Two of the eateries we’ll visit have facilities. The first will be available at the beginning of the tour and the second halfway through.
