The dead are coming!…. in a good way.
Cultural practices and rituals that touch on the commonalities of our human condition have the incredible power to transcend languages, worldview and even beliefs. Perhaps this year more than ever, we can benefit from learning about different ways to deal with grief and loss.
In recent decades Dia de Muertos has captivated the word’s imagination with the richness of its imagery, objects and practices. And if there’s something we can learn from its cultural history is that all cultures and identities are consequences of a constant flow of ideas, exchange and transformation and Day of the Dead is no different.
Interestingly a lesser-known aspect of this celebration is that it allows friends and families to enjoy our love for oral history. And we share legends and stories of encounters and experiences with the spiritual world. So, as I promised you in the last episode, you will enjoy a couple of spooky stories *just for grown-ups*
This episode is an adaptation of a production I was recently commissioned for Puente Latino, a charity based in Long Beach, California.
