The History of Mexican Markets Part II

July 24, 2018rocio.carvajal.cortes@gmail.com

Presented by: Rocio Carvajal Food history writer, cook and author.

On this second part of the markets special we continue our journey through the history of Mexican markets exploring the colonial period and the changes in the agricultural system that reflected the social and cultural changes of its time.

We will see how Markets survived the war of Independence, invasions, two fail empires and the Mexican Revolution all the way through the age of the supermarkets.

This episode closes with the top ten Mexican markets that I think sum up some of the best features of Mexico’s unique, culturally significant and even quirky markets.
